What Started Me on This Path

As a fairly new vegan I try to not rub the most hideous images of animal cruelty in factory farms in people’s faces. Be kind, be gentle, ease people into it. But this is my testimonial. Six months ago I would never have thought in a million years I would be vegan. But one single post on Facebook changed forever how I look at food. If I can help just one other person make this connection between food and animals I will have succeeded. That one post was a picture of a cow on the slaughterhouse floor, chained by one leg, on its back, crying and begging for its life as the vicious slaughter was about to take place. The caption was “Every hamburger starts with an animal begging for it’s life.”

That image and that caption never left my mind. It kept replaying over and over. Suddenly when I saw an ad for a burger, which I had always dearly loved, I did not see a burger. I saw that cow begging for it’s life. Everyone in the world needs to make the connection between the food they eat and the horrible cruelty the animals endure.

In today’s world with the food technology we have there is absolutely no reason to continue killing animals. We have enough plant based meat alternatives that have the same texture and taste as meat and can be cooked into the same dishes. There is no need to give up your favorite foods. You can still have your comfort foods. Just use a plant based alternative that does not involve killing an animal.

I continue to be amazed at how fantastic I feel and how fast the weight is falling off. I have dieted my entire life and it was always a struggle. Not eating plant based. I was afraid I had maybe gained weight this week because I ate way too many vegan tamales and a huge Beyond meat burger with all the fixings. I got on the scale this morning and had lost another 1.5 lbs. 247 amazes me!  32 pounds in 4 months.  Cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure all down to normal.  I have gone from dragging myself from chair to chair to walking at least 5000 steps per day and practically jogging around the office.  Everyone at work is amazed at the transformation in me.

Please, please, please do your research and choose to leave animals off your plate! For the sake of your health, for the sake of the planet, and most of all for the sake of the animals!
